Summary: Baekhyun is the ultimate matchmaker in university. He loves seeing people slowly fall in love with each other and takes pride knowing it’s mostly because of him. But when a chance comes when it’s his turn for love what will he do?
Author's Note: It’s not exactly like the prompt and it’s not the best but I hope op still likes it. I don’t know why but it’s slightly inspired by Taylor Swift’s How You Get the Girl.
Jongin is sitting on Baekhyun’s bed staring at him with hopeful eyes waiting for his reply.
“So let me get this straight. You want me to help you win Kyungsoo’s heart, which you have been pining for since two hours ago.”
“It was love at first sight!”
“Look, I heard you were good at this. Junmyeon hyung and Jongdae hyung got together after you locked them in your dorm room and forced them to talk to each other because they were too scared to do it themselves. Now they’re so cute that they make me wanna vomit and they fuck a lot too.”
“You are aware of what happened between me and Kyungsoo right?”
“Oh puh-lease. You guys made out at some party then went out on a few dates that ended in a night in bed where he blue-balled you because you weren’t big enough.”
“It was because we weren’t emotionally ready yet!”
“Sure. So what’s the plan?”
Two days later, Baekhyun and Jongin are hiding behind a pillar near Kyungsoo’s music theory classroom ready to carry out their plan which was Jongin bumping into Kyungsoo, making the him drop his things, then Jongin helps him like the Prince Charming he thinks he is. Cliche and overused but Baekhyun thinks it’s golden.
Kyungsoo comes out into the hall along with the other crowd of students. Jongin seems to be frozen in his spot so Baekhyun takes initiative and pushes him forward onto Kyungsoo. They both fell forward and locked eyes. Baekhyun smirks and thinks they can handle things from there. He’s about to leave when he notices the brown-haired giant that was talking to Kyungsoo before Jongin collided with him. He raised his head up, eyes catching Baekhyun’s. The unknown giant squinted his eyes at Baekhyun, making the latter uncomfortable so he turned around to head to his class for the day, leaving the soon-to-be lovebirds and the said boy glaring holes through his head.
Word gets around in Baekhyun’s close circle of friends about Kyungsoo’s newfound romance and surprisingly enough, some of them were Jongin’s friends as well, adding to the couple’s overflowing happiness. Baekhyun feels satisfied with another job well done. Perhaps this time Kyungsoo’s ass will be content with Jongin’s dick.
Feeling elated with a new mission accomplished, Baekhyun walks out of his Economic Finance class with a bounce on his steps and a smile on his face. Lost in his own thoughts, he failed to notice a lurking giant behind him. He walks into the campus cafeteria to buy himself a snack and as he stopped in front of the vending machine, something bumped into him, causing him to hit his face onto the machine. He turned around to face the perpetrator and found himself facing quite a familiar face he didn't think he would remember.
"Um excuse me??? I don't know if you noticed but I just kissed the freakin' vending machine because of someone i.e YOU.”
The strange boy blinked twice before asking, “Are you Byun Baekhyun?”
The boy in question became surprised. “H-How did you know that?”
“Consider it a random but surprisingly correct conjecture.”
“Okay then...Do you need something?”
“Oh right. Well I heard you were quite a match maker. You’re pretty well known around campus. You even set up my friend Kyungsoo with that freshman.” You even set up other people you didn’t need to...
Baekhyun was surprised to know that this guy could be so peculiar yet so intriguing. “Ah yes well I do what I can. So uh do you want me to set someone up for you? Maybe for a friend of yours or perhaps...yourself?” Baekhyun didn’t know why but a sudden feeling of wanting to match this guy up with someone else suddenly felt really wrong.
“No, my friend Luhan has this crush on a guy that is apparently a friend of yours. Do you suppose you could give them a little push?”
“I-I’ll see what I can do.”
A day later and Baekhyun is meeting with Chanyeol in the cafe twenty minutes away from their university to create a way on how Luhan can get into Minseok’s pants
“First thing to do is to get Luhan some balls to actually go up to the guy instead of staring from afar. I’ll bring Minseok here tomorrow and you bring Luhan. Sounds good?”
“Yup. Thanks for doing this.”
“No problem. Sooo...is that all for today?”
Baekhyun internally depleted at his own words. For the past hour and a half, Baekhyun realized that Chanyeol is smart and funny with a loud and open mouthed laugh that he somehow found endearing. He also found out that they were in the same math class which surprised him because how could he not notice this too-attractive-to-be-human boy.
“Um I’d like to ask you how Jongdae and Junmyeon are doing.”
“Oh they’re doing really great! Thanks to me”
Chanyeol seemed to deflate at this. His shoulders slacked, his lips wobbled, and his eyes lowered and kept blinking rapidly for a few seconds and he clenched his coffee cup hard.
“Yeah. Thanks to you.”
“How do you know them?”
“Junmyeon...is a precious friend of mine.”
Their conversation continued on and Baekhyun decide to go with his gut and ask Chanyeol for a math study “date”. Chanyeol agreed and they parted ways.
It’s Friday afternoon when Baekhyun arrives in Chanyeol’s dorm room.
“Hey Baekhyun. Come in.”
“Thanks. Um you look nice today.”
“Really? I think I forgot to shower today. Sorry I don’t why I told you that.”
“Oh, it’s okay.”
Baekhyun laughed nervously and sat down on one of the bean bags on the floor. He saw a pile of textbooks on a desk beside the bed Chanyeol’s sitting at and noticed they were all about science.
“Wow you must really like science. Are you majoring in it?”
“Yeah I’m majoring in Biochemical Engineering and minoring in music composition. It’s an unusual combination but it’s fun. How about you?”
“I major in Business Management and minoring in Vocal Performance.”
“Wow, so I guess we both minor in music in a way.”
“Yeah maybe we have a lot in common.” Baekhyun mentally high fives himself and gives Chanyeol a shy smile.
“I guess so. Luhan and Minseok are going well by the way. I saw them making googly eyes to each yesterday in the library.”
“That makes me really happy then. I love seeing love blossoming between my friends.”
“What about yourself then? Have you ever matched yourself with someone?”
“Nope. I’d rather see my friends being happy and in love because I feel like they deserve it way more than I do, plus their smiles brighten me up more than any guy could.”
“What if you meet a guy that could?”
“Then I won’t let him go.”
Chanyeol saw Baekhyun in a different light during this conversation. His previous despise for the boy, caused by his past feelings for Junmyeon, immediately faded away. Yes, Chanyeol used to hate Baekhyun because he was the reason that Junmyeon was now happy with Jongdae instead of him. However, after seeing that Baekhyun is someone who selflessly likes to make people happy, he realized that he was stupid to dislike someone he knew nothing about, even if he was blinded by his love for Junmyeon. He also realized that his heart might not belong to Junmyeon anymore as he looked at the sparkle in Baekhyun’s eyes as he tells him about how in love his friends are.
The day continued on with soft spoken conversations and unopened textbooks. A few more giggles and pink cheeks here and there and soon it was time to go as it was already nine pm and Baekhyun has to meet Kyungsoo for breakfast tomorrow at seven in the morning.
“This was really fun Chanyeol. We should hang out again.”
“Of course. You still have my number right?”
Baekhyun arrived at the cafe at exactly 7:00 the next morning and spotted Kyungsoo with coffee and a bagel sitting by the window. He went to the counter to buy his food then sat down in front of the other boy.
“Sooo how’s life…and Jongin?”
“Things are great. I really like him.”
“Haha thank you Baekhyun. So what have you been doing?”
“Yesterday I hung out with this guy Chanyeol and I had a lot of fun.”
“Oh really? That’s good. I thought he would hate you forever.”
“Yeah apparently he blamed you for his broken heart when you set up Junmyeon hyung and Jongdae. He never told you?”
“Um no he didn’t...But it doesn’t matter! I-I only asked for help on the homework so I’m not speaking to him anytime soon.”
“If you say so...Oh so guess what Jongin did last night!”
As Kyungsoo droned on and on about his date with Jongin, Baekhyun’s mind was a mess as he tried to decipher how Chanyeol could act so sweet to him yet hate him at the same time. Was he faking it? Is he planning to hurt me afterwards? Oh I don’t think so park chanyeol. If you think that you can ju-
“Baekhyun are you okay? You’re shaking a bit”
“O-Oh I’m fine!”
When Baekhyun got home, he vowed to curse Chanyeol to depths of whatever kind of hell there is.
Baekhyun entered his Calculus class and saw Chanyeol sitting in the middle row waving at him with a smile too wide for a Monday morning. Baekhyun tsked at the boy and went to sit at the front. Chanyeol was confused but shrugged it off blaming Baekhyun’s mood on the fact that it was a Monday.
The second the class ended, Chanyeol hurried to Baekhyun’s side and said hello. Baekhyun stayed silent, confusing Chanyeol even more.
“Baekhyun is something wrong?”
“Isn’t that what you want? For something go horribly wrong to happen to me or something?
“Wait what? Baekhyun why the hell would you think that?”
“Oh I don’t know. Maybe it’s because apparently you fucking hate me!”
“What?!? What did I even do to make you think that?”
“Well you told Kyungsoo you did!
“Oh. Shit. Baekhyun I can expl-wait!”
Baekhyun headed for the door and was about to leave until Chanyeol grabbed his wrist and turned him around.
“Just hear me out okay? Please?”
“Fine.” Baekhyun might as well hear out his story in case of any misunderstandings, if there were even any.
“It’s kinda true. I did hate you for a while… But I swear I don’t anymore! After Friday, I realized how wrong how I was. You’re a funny, sweet, and kind person who would go to great lengths to make other people happy and I absolutely respect you for that. Plus, you’re really cute and I can’t stop thinking about the next time I see you which I hope will be at a date at this really good restaurant I go to often. So what do you say?”
Baekhyun mulls about his friends who are all in love and the happiest they’ve been since he first met them and he can’t lie when he thinks about how it must be nice to be like that as well. He also can’t deny that there is still some attraction in towards Chanyeol lying beneath his heart. He decides it wouldn’t really hurt to be the one blushing and giggling for once. Besides, if Chanyeol breaks his heart, Baekhyun will break him even more.
“I’d say that I don’t have classes until noon and I’m really interested in that restaurant you go to.”
And that’s how Baekhyun got the boy who made him realize why he wanted his friends to find love in the first place. Now it’s his turn and he found it in the boy walking beside him to their first of many dates to come.
